The “White Ballet“ of the Spanish Riding School dances into the new autumn season

The “White Ballet“ of the Spanish Riding School dances into the new autumn season

After its traditional summer break the Spanish Riding School Vienna will open the new season on August 16th: As from this day the Lipizzaner stallions and their riders will again present the High School of Classical Horsemanship during regular performances. In order to be well prepared and show their best side the stallions and their riders have already started their training sessions today, August 5th.

During the performances, the visitors witness the result of years of training of horse and rider in the dignified setting of the baroque Winter Riding School – from the young, boisterous stallion to the fully trained School Stallion, who enchants the audience with his performance in the School Quadrille, in the Schools on and above the Ground and on the Long Rein.

The morning exercise, taking place Tuesdays to Fridays, 10 to 12 am, offers an insight into the years of training of the Lipizzaners and their riders. Accompanied by classical Viennese music the riders and their horses do simple relaxing exercises and exercises aimed at refining and perfecting a certain movement. Through the specific strengthening and building up of the muscles, the horses’ natural movements are developed into the perfect figures of the High School of Classical Horsemanship.

The guided tours, taking place daily, at 2, 3 and 4 pm, offer a look behind the scenes: In an exclusive tour of the Spanish Riding School the guests visit the Winter Riding School, a gem of Baroque architecture, the Summer Riding School which houses the world’s largest oval horse walker and the stables in the Stallburg, Vienna’s most significant Renaissance building with its beautiful arcade courtyard and the historical stables of the Lipizzaner stallions.

Performance dates in August: 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st, at 11:00 am. Tickets may be booked online (www.srs.at), directly at the Visitor Centre Box Office, Michaelerplatz 1, 1010 Vienna, or by mail, fax or e-mail: office@srs.at.
